Description
French Sterling Silver Hot Chocolate Pot by Puiforcat PARIS .
dimensions : H 11 cm / 4.33 inch
Initially a family cutlery business founded in Paris in 1820, the current renown of the Puiforcat name is largely due to Jean Puriforcat, the fourth generation in the family business. It was under his leadership that the company became established in the avant-garde of modern silverwork. In the late 19th century, under the management of his father, Louis-Victor Puiforcat, the company began moving toward the high end of the silversmith's trade, recreating 18th century masterpieces that are now exhibited at the Louvre Museum in Paris. Louis-Victor's son Jean was named master silversmith in 1920. Jean was one of the founders of the Union des Artistes Modernes (UAM) in 1929, and was a friend of architects, designers, and interior decorators such as Rene Herbst, Le Corbusier, Charlotte Perriand, and Pierre Charneau. They shared a passion for abstraction, constant innovation, and exacting standards of execution. Jean Puiforcat's Art Deco style is characterized by pure architectural lines, simplicity, and the marriage of solid silver with other precious materials such as exotic woods and semi-precious stones. His work continues to inspire contemporary high-end silverwork.
