Description
Southeast Asia, Thailand, ca. 19th century CE. A stunning gilt wood sculpture of a kneeling deva, a Buddhist celestial being or god who shares the god-like characteristics of being more powerful, longer-lived, and, in general, much happier than humans. Elaborately adorned in layers of fabrics and jewels, the angelic being places hands together in the Anjali mudra of prayer or worship. A dazzling example! Size: 3.4" L x 5.5" W x 12" H (8.6 cm x 14 cm x 30.5 cm)
