Andrew Martin was born in Paris and was the son of a figural sculptor. He received formal training at The Art Institute of Chicago and the L’Ecole des Beaux Arts in Paris. Later, he taught at the University of North Carolina at Greensboro from 1964 to 1995. He inspired students, who coined themselves The Greensboro School, with his European academy style for over 30 years.
