The Gardens of England. London: T. McLean, [1857]. Folio, (539 x 364mm). With 25 chromolithographed plates including title from 27, lacking two plates. PP: plate list leaf, preface leaf, garden list leaf, followed by 28 leaves of descriptive text with 16 lithographed vignettes. The two missing plates are: 'View in the gardens' at Alton Tower, and 'Westfield House'. The gardens include those at: Trentham Hall, Holkham House, Alton Towers, Bowood, Woburn Abbey, Eaton Hall, Castle Howard, Harewood, Enville Hall, Elvaston Castle, Wilton House, Worsley Hall, etc. Original green cloth boards, upper cover stamped in gilt. Covers rubbed and the text and plates detached. Many of the plates and text leaves with tears and frayed edges (away from the images); two text leaves with a tear across the middle and small loss; some staining to margins.
