Sir Walter Scott's Works. 1821-1822 Mrs. Thomas Scott's set, sister in law. (28 volumes)
Lot includes: 28 volumes, all custom bound in 3/4 crimson morocco with bright gilt tooling, titles, and four stamped thistle motifs to spines, with dates 1821 & 1822 at foot; 8vos. near fine, in and out. each volume SIGNED and dated in ink by Mrs. Thomas Scott (Sir Walter Scott's sister-in-law) bears the bookplate of C.E. Richardson [Catherine Eliza Richardson] (1777-1853) born to Phoebe Scott (née Dixon) and James Scott, a landowner of considerable property and Justice of the peace in the Scottish borders village of Canonbie, Dumfriesshire. She is described being 'born into favourable circumstances' as one of a 'numerous family of brothers and sisters', of 'educated and intellectual' parents.
