Typed note to Dr. Janet Travell before the birth of John F. Kennedy, Jr. [Washington:] 7 September 1960. A short typed note on Mrs. Kennedy's blue "JBK" stationery, signed "Jackie," 4 x 5 1/2 inches (10 x 14 cm); nicely framed with the original mailing envelope. The signature faded but visible; Together with TRAVELL, JANET, M.D. Office Hours: Day and Night. New York: World Publishing, 1968. First printing, signed by Dr. Travell on the front free endpaper. Publisher's cloth in dust jacket. Chips and small losses to jacket.
This note was written by Jacqueline Kennedy in September 1960, about two months before her husband was elected president which was just two weeks before the birth of her son John Kennedy, Jr.on November 25th. In the note, Mrs. Kennedy thanks Dr. Travell for the blue sweater and, hoping for a boy, writes "Let's hope you are a psychic!" Dr. Janet Travell was White House physician under Kennedy and Johnson from 1961-65. She is credited with suggesting President Kennedy use a rocking chair to alleviate back pain. Dr. Travell also cared for Mrs. Kennedy in this period, all of which is detailed in her memoir Office Hours, present here in a signed first printing.
