Publisher's gilt-lettered straight-grained red cloth. 8 x 5 1/2 inches (20 x 13 cm); frontispiece portrait, 330 pp. Extremities lightly rubbed, booklabel to pastedown, some minor thumbsoiling and spotting, a sound copy.

First edition of the autobiography of Booker T. Washington (1956-1915), the important author, orator, and educator who had been born into slavery in Virginia and came to found the Tuskegee Institute.
