Of the 71 plates, 45 are hand-colored, of which 24 are of birds. The work includes all of the species obtained by Henderson during the first Yarkand expedition, and therefore deals with materials from both expeditions, despite the title. The contributors include Richard Bowdler Sharpe, Allan Hume, W.T. Blanford, H.W. Bates, and many others.
