4.5X6.25 B&W glossy vintage photograph signed in fountain pen ink, "Hailsham Dec '59." A paper clip indention and some light edge wear, otherwise nice.(1907-2001) Quintin McGarel Hogg, Baron Hailsham of St Marylebone was known as the 2nd Viscount Hailsham between 1950 and 1963, at which point he disclaimed his hereditary peerage. He was a British barrister and Conservative Party politician who served as Lord Chancellor from 1970 to 1974 and again from 1979 to 1987.Like his father, Hailsham was considered to be a contender for the leadership of the Conservative Party. He was a contender to succeed Harold Macmillan as prime minister in 1963, renouncing his hereditary peerage to do so, but was passed over in favor of the Earl of Home. He was created a life peer in 1970 and served as Lord Chancellor, the office formerly held by his father, in 1970-74 and 1979–87.This lot came from the Jim Wiggins collection we purchased in July 2022. Jim Wiggins accumulated the most unique and valuable autograph collection over a period of 70-plus years. He obtained his collection either in person or by writing to persons of fame and notoriety.
