Item Details
Description
1947 Pittsburgh Pirates Multi-Signed Baseball w/21 Signatures Including Honus Wagner (JSA LOA). 21 signatures, including those of Hall of Famers Honus Wagner, Ralph Kiner, and Billy Herman. The '47 Pirates finished in eighth place in the NL in '47, but Kiner was a major attendance draw for his remarkable power hitting. In '47, Kiner hit 51 home runs and added 127 RBIs. Billy Herman managed the team for all but the final game of the season, and at 37 years old, he played sparingly. For his playing career, mostly with the Chicago Cubs, Herman batted .304 and had 2,143 hits, and he was an excellent second baseman as well. Honus Wagner was a coach with the '47 Pirates. In his playing career, Wagner batted .329 and won eight batting titles, the most in NL history. Wagner had 3,420 hits. He became an Inaugural Hall of Fame Inductee. Wagner managed the 1917 Pittsburgh team and later was a Pirates coach from 1933-51. Also signing the offered baseball: E. Bonham, P. Roe, D. Howell, B. Cox, Westlake, K. Higbe, J. Russell, and J. Bagby Jr., Fred Fitzsimmons, and Gene Baker. Honus Wagner and Fred Fitzsimmons signed on the sweet spot. Gene Baker, a second baseman, was Pittsburgh's first African American player. Hall of Fame slugger Hank Greenberg's "signature" is a facsimile signature made with a stamp. The signatures are in blue ink from a steel-tip fountain pen. The signed ball comes with a JSA Letter of Authenticity. The Wagner and Kiner signatures alone make this signed ball a noteworthy find.
