Czech-Austrian Impressionist and Modern painter, born Malvina Schalkova of Jewish family in Prague and worked in Vienna. Graduated Vrchlabi in Prague, studied art in Munichs Frauenakademie and privately in Vienna. Schalek was a renowned portraitist with a studio over the Teater am der Wien, until 1938 annexation, when she fled from Nazis to Leitmoritz, Czechoslovakia, leaving all works, of which only 30 found after war, including 2 displayed in the Historisches Zentrum von Wien.
In 1942, Schalek was deported to Theresienstadt and died in Auschwitz in 1944.
In Terezin, she has created about 100 drawings and watercolors displayed at the Ghetto Fighters' Museum in kibbutz Lohamei HaGeta'ot.
