ANSERMET Ernest(Vevey, 11.11.1883 - Geneva, 20.02.1969). A graduate in physical sciences and mathematics from the University of Lausanne, he taught mathematics at the gymnasium. He then studied music in Paris, Munich and Berlin. He discovered the scores of Stravinsky, Prokofiev, Ravel, Debussy, Hindemith, Bartok, Honegger and Frank Martin. He founded the Orchestre de la Suisse Romande and premiered L'histoire du soldat by Ramuz and Stravinsky. Studied at the Zurich Conservatory, then in Cologne. At the age of 20 he conducted the Lucerne city orchestra and three years later he was Kapellmeister at the Zurich city theatre. In 1927, he went to Berlin and joined the Nazi party, hoping to keep his post in Germany. Studied violin at the Lausanne Conservatoire. Dedicated to his art with all his heart, he founded the Orchestre de Chambre de Lausanne in 1942, building it into an ensemble of international renown. He grew up in Fribourg. Before studying music, he studied literature, law and theology. He conducted the orchestras of Biel and Solothurn before joining the Zurich Opera. He also conducted the orchestras of St Gallen and Basel, then the Lausanne Chamber Orchestra from 1985 to 1997. Like Ansermet, he turned down prestigious posts in major European cities to stay with the OSR, with which he has recorded most of his music.Programme signed, Bienne, 20.01.1972.KLOPFENSTEIN René(Lausanne, 15.08.1927 - on the plane, 18.12.1984). He began playing the piano in Aigle and wrote his first compositions at the age of twelve. In Basel, he obtained a degree in philosophy in 1950, then studied orchestral conducting in Strasbourg with Igor Markewitch. He was Igor Markewitch's secretary from 1952 to 1954. In 1955 he became general secretary of the Schola Cantorum in Paris. He worked for radio and the press, and in 1968 he returned to Clarens to become artistic director of the Montreux Music Festival, where he brought an innovative spirit.
