Description
These are tow wonderful views of the eastern Austrian towns of Eiestadt and Mannersdorf near the Hungarian border. The top view of Eistadt is from the north, from the Leitha Mountains. The densely crowded town houses are watched over by the 14th-century four-tower castle of Kanizsai, today's Esterhazy palace, built on a hill. This area became part of the Hungarian Kanizsai family's pocession in the middle ages. The lower view of Maaersdorf is towards the north over the Vienna Basin and includes the Styrian Alps in the west and the Hungarian Alps in the east. A resting man is shown watching over his flock. Latin text on verso. From the Civitatis Orbis Terrarum.
