Circular with openwork rocaille side handles, the body and stand chased with flower garlands holding vacant rococo cartouches, the domed cover chased with a friese of branches of flowers on matted ground and with artichoke finial, marked underneath stand and body and in cover: town, title and maker
This écuelle is remarkable for this garland of flowers chased on the cover and body which is unique to Johann Ludwig Imlin and is found on two other examples by the silversmith, one dated 1767 now in the Musée de Strasbourg (Inv. 33.982.1.1 (1-3) and another dated 1768 in the Metropolitan Museum of Art, New York (Acc. No. 41.88.1a, b, .2).

Lot Essay

Le décor de cette écuelle est tout à fait remarquable de par cette guirlande de fleurs qui est unique à Johann Ludwig Imlin. On la retrouve sur deux autres écuelles de l'orfèvre, l'un datée 1767 aujourd'hui conservée au Musée de Strasbourg (Inv. 33.982.1.1 (1-3) et une autre datée 1768 conservée au Metropolitan Museum of Art, New York (Acc.
