Description

Trained at the United States Naval Academy. In 1914, he made his first aeroplane flight. In 1924, he organised a dirigible flight from Alaska to Spitsbergen. On 9 May 1926, he reached the North Pole. In 1928, he turned his attention to Antarctica and flew over the South Pole in November 1929.
