Noticed by Mazarin, at the age of 22 he became a military engineer responsible for fortifications. He took part in 14 sieges and improved the defence of almost 300 towns. In 1703, he became Marshal of France.Manuscit signed "Vauban", Brest, June 14, 1695, 3/4 p. in folio. Beautiful, very rare piece. Piece established at the time when Vauban victoriously defended Brest against attacks by the English fleet. He certifies that Mr. Hodeneaude Gourdon currently serves the King in the rear of the bishopric of Quimper and that he is currently in quarters in the said city.
