Description
Lieutenant-General in 1758, he distinguished himself during the Seven Years' War, notably at Clostercamp in 1760, where he defeated the Duke of Brunswick, and was made Marshal of France in 1783. Secretary of State for the Navy, he undertook the construction of the military port of Cherbourg and drew up a naval code that bears his name (1786).Document signed and dated 17.03.1788: Certificate for the signatures of the marshals and brigadiers of the Dauphin company of the gendarmerie, attesting that the gendarme Nicolas Clement served in the campaigns from 1760 to 1762.
