Description
Extremely rare, 19th century Thai narrative painting features a story from the Thai epic Ramakien (sometimes spelled Ramayana) that tells the story of Prince Rama (Phra Ram) and his quest to rescue his wife, Princess Sita (Nang Sida), from the Demon King Ravana (Tosakanth). This piece is very well painted and shows extensive wear. Because of the Thai climate and the media of narrative paintings, there are no known Thai narrative paintings older than the early 19th century. This is one of three from the same set being offered in this auction. 23 x 18 inches Provenance: Dana Piggott
