The Top 500 Poems. [1992]. PRESENTED BY PRESIDENT CLINTON WITH AUTOGRAPH NOTE.
Signed ("Bill") to Madeleine Albright, [ca after 1992]. Regarding his suggested poems in order. In part:
"1 Tuft of Flowers. Frost. Mostly to avoid the cliches
2 Road Not Taken. Frost. Cliche, but wonderful (pp. 900)."
A paperclip placed on p. 901, bookmarks Frost's "The Road Not Taken," the second poem on Clinton's list and an ode to the importance of decision-making. Albright took the road not yet traveled when she became the first female Secretary of State, appointed by President Clinton, and the highest-ranking woman in the U.S. government at that time. In his statement on Secretary Albright's passing, Clinton summarized her impact: "She was one of the finest Secretaries of State, an outstanding UN Ambassador, a brilliant professor, and an extraordinary human being" (23 March 2022).
In original binding with dust jacket (condition generally very good).
