Description
A letter from Scotland with passage concerning visit of Harriet Beecher Stowe and with comments on slavery. 4to, 4 pp. June 14, 1853. A letter from Wm. Gourlie to his son "Dear John." *********** "We have had a visit of Mrs. Stow, author of Uncle Tom's Cabin. [I]t is universally admired and complete expose of that cursed system of Slavery which is a foul blot on the character of America, in all other respects a splendid Country and I believe in the course of time, will be the first Country in the world, and that stain of Slavery will and shall be blotted out. I see from the papers that Mrs. Stow is in London at present, and is courted and caressed by the highest in the Nation. She has made her fortune I expect." Accompanied by a typed transcript.
