Engraved frontis with bust of Homer at center, [42], 518 pp. + 45 plates. This copy without the portraits of Homer and Ogilby, additional engraved title (sometimes seen), and 5 (?) other plates; number of plates tends to vary from one copy to next. Nicely rebound in full calf. ************ First edition of Ogilby's translation of Homer's Iliad, accompanied by fine engraved plates which were a feature of Ogilby's productions.
Condition
A few leaves with discreet, expert repairs of closed tears (some extend into text area, no loss); T3 with corner and fore-margin chips repaired in old paper (no loss); one plate with 1" hole to image, repaired in paper (see photos); some light foxing and occasional light soiling or small stains; one plate slightly shaved (see photos); a few leaves near end with small faded water-stains to margins.
