William Mason (1724-1797.) Aston, August 31, 1792. Autograph letter signed. 4to, 2 pp. ********* Letter concerning a political controversy over a proposed lunatic asylum. William Mason was a noted English poet and editor. His poem "Musaeus, a Monody on the Death of Mr. Pope" was widely acclaimed and went through several editions. In 1785, he was William Pitt the Younger's choice to succeed William Whitehead as Poet Laureate, but he refused the honor.
Condition
Faint creases flattened, light staining to corners, marginal closed tear. Good.
