Description

David Dixon Porter (1812-1892.) Mexico. June 14, 1826. Folio (13" x 8"), 2 pp., (plus blank leaf.) ******** An autograph letter by this famous admiral, written to his mother from Mexico when he was only 13 years old. He began his naval career as a midshipman under his father when he was only 10 years old. He would go on to become an important figure in the Mexican War and the Civil War. In the letter, Porter writes to his mother giving details about his travels and experiences in Mexico. It is extremely uncommon to find Porter items from this early, during his formative years.
