Bonnie Halsey-Dutton (American, Contemporary). "Some Rips Can't Be Repaired II" oil on canvas, 2006. Signed and dated on lower right. A poignant painting speaking to the irreparable damage done to the indigenous peoples of North America, mounted in a gorgeous frame comprised of burled wood with a decorative inlay. In the artist's words, "This nighttime tranquil image is suddenly interrupted with a purposeful tear in the right-hand side of the teepee. This tear, combined with the unraveling of the rope holding the structure together reflects the meaning of this artwork. The hasty attempt to 'repair' the tear reminds the viewer that there are some things that just cannot be 'fixed' to be as they once were." Size (painting): 36" L x 36" W (91.4 cm x 91.4 cm) Size (frame): 41.5" L x 41.5" W (105.4 cm x 105.4 cm)
Bonnie Halsey-Dutton was born and raised in South Dakota and is inspired by the local cultures where she resides as well as their history. She is both a professional visual artist and a fine arts educator, holding a PhD in Art History and Education from the University of Arizona. Bonnie Halsey-Dutton exhibits her artwork both nationally and internationally, and also teaches art education workshops at home and abroad.
