Oil on Canvas (unframed) by Martin Facey (American, b.1948), "Day Night", 1983. This artwork is a colorful composition depicting semi-abstract mountains, geologic, and marine forms. The canvas measures approximately 54" x 66". Signed and titled on the verso, it also includes the inscription: "P-185 (Code). Stretched 8/16/83, Knowing what I want to do here - Ain't no neo-exp. No neo-A.E. LACMA can it. #10 cotton duck. L. Hudson bar. Hot & wet. Dodgers 4-1/2 back. (9/3) Dodgers 2-1/2 front. Hot & dry. So life goes on." A label on the stretcher verso indicates Tortue Gallery, Santa Monica. This item originates from the estate of John A. Williams, a distinguished philanthropist and renowned collector. Mr. Williams and his partner Dewitt Hart were influential members of San Francisco's art society and were celebrated for their discerning taste in modern, ethnographic, and fine art. Over the years, they hosted numerous exhibitions in their home, showcasing their prestigious collection to appreciative audiences. All proceeds of items from this estate benefit the Hart Williams Rainbow Fund, a nonprofit working with the LGBTQIA+ community in the San Francisco Bay Area.
