Description
The vajra is fashioned out of cast bronze, the four prongs at each end curving around the central fifth to form a lotus-bud shape. Each prong meets the center through the mouth of a beast.
The vajra as weapon is wielded like a club by figures such as the wrathful deity Vajrapani in order to subjugate an external or internal obstacle and thus is simultaneously a tool of compassion and skillful means leading to the indestructible state of enlightenment. (source: Tricycle)
MEASUREMENTS
6 5/8” (16.8 cm) long x 1 3/8” (3.4 cm) wide. Weighs 11.0 oz (325 g)
CONDITION
There are no breaks, cracks, repairs or chips. There are areas with white corrosion particularly at the end of the prongs. There is significant wear to the gilding but the vajra still is bright gold in many places.
A great old vajra that will complement a collection or display of Buddhist articles.
