Description
19TH CENTURY SPANISH SILVER COVERED DISH, possibly a porringer-type dish or silent butler, having a shallow round well, topped by a hinged lid with ringed design featuring anthemion leaf border and engraved accents, edge with thumblift corresponding to curved handle having an animal head figural tip, base with engraved "J. A." initials. Interior base with a "BAR" city mark for Barcelona, Spain and a "[?] / CARRERAS" maker's mark, base with a tremolierstich mark, of unknown silver fineness. Total weight: 9.665 ozt. First half 19th century. Dish 4 7/8" DOA, 8 3/4" LOA with handle.
Condition
Very good visual condition with some wear, surface scratches, nicks, and denting, thumblift with slight bending and possible repair, side of dish with repair at terminal of handle.
