DUTCH DELFT TIN-GLAZED EARTHENWARE BIRDCAGE PLAQUES, LOT OF TWO, each having bold polychrome trompe l'oeil hand-painted decorations, comprising one large example featuring a bird in a domed enclosure surrounded by molded drapery with tassels, having a medallion to top depicting a woman's profile and bottom featuring an amorous couple in a garden, having an attached metal frame to back for hanging, and one featuring a yellow canary in a four-footed enclosure and a conical waterer to exterior. Hand-brushed marks to back include a De Klaauw-style example and remaining with a shield and "Holland" to interior. 19th to 20th century. Largest plaque 14" x 16 7/8".

Smaller example mostly undamaged having a minor flake to top and some characteristic glaze flakes; largest example having some scattered, mostly minor chips to back edges and some characteristic glaze flakes to edges.
