Arnao of Brussels fl. 1536 1564 . was a Spanish Renaissance sculptor probably of Flemish origin as indicated by his surname although his training and professional activity took place entirely in Spain. In September 1536 as a young man he became an apprentice to Damian Forment in Zaragoza working in his workshop for four years. From 1545 to 1550 he is documented in the lands of the diocese of Calahorra in the companies of Juan de Beugrant first and of the Guipuzcoan Andres de Araoz later. With Beugrant he was able to collaborate in 1545 on the altarpiece of San Vicente de la Sonsierra. But at the same time that he was working on the Genevilla work In 1550 he contracted on his own account the main altarpiece of the church of San Martin de Alberite completed in 1555 when Andres de Araoz was in charge of its appraisal. From the workshop established by Araoz in Genevilla an altarpiece for Laguardia and the main altarpiece of Elvillar alava . which Araoz took over in 1550 in which the intervention of Arnao of Brussels even a year before is undoubted although his name does not appear in the documentation.
