Description: 2 volumes. viii, 576; 584 pp. Engraved frontispiece, 139 plates, 3 folding maps in first volume; engraved double-page frontispiece, 119 (of 137) plates, 3 folding maps in second volume. Many engraved vignette illustrations in the text. (4to) contemporary quarter calf and marbled boards, spine labels, marbled endpapers, rebacked with original spine strips laid down. First Edition.D'Urville has edited texts from many famous voyages into a continuous narrative of a fictitious voyage on the ship "Kanguroo." The work was quite popular and saw many editions in many languages. Lavishly illustrated with most plates bearing 2 images. Maps include charts of the Hawaiian Islands, the Islands of Tahiti, 20x14" map of the Pacific, et al. Lacks 18 plates in the second volume at about the section on New Zealand.

Moderate wear to binding with slight loss to edges and corners bumped; light foxing, occasional stains; overall still very good.
