Description: Printed broadside announcement regarding Japanese Internment, 1942. 55.7x35.5 cm (22x14"). April 24, 1942.Rare East Bay version of the notorious broadside that was posted up and down the west coast, directing U.S. citizens and immigrants of Japanese ancestry to report to gathering points, from which they were sent to detention camps scattered across the western states. Those subject to the order were to be given advice and instructions on the evacuation, provided assistance "with respect to the management, leasing, sale, storage or other disposition of most kinds of property..." and be transported with "a limited amount of clothing, and equipment to their new residence." They were to "Go to the Civil Control Station... between the hours of 8:00 A.M. and 5:00 P.M." on April 25 and April 26, 1942. We have not seen this version of the poster before, and found only one listed in OCLC, at Northwestern University. This copy with small address label of Marvin and Miyo Uratsu affixed at lower edge, and the ink name Uratsu at upper left corner.

Condition
Some creasing, stain at upper left corner affecting the ink name but no printing, small chip at that corner; very good.
