BOOK CONDITION: Very Good Plus (VG+); a solid, tight, clean copy with no reading creases to spine, light wear to edges and corners of covers, tiny bump to top rifght corner affecting just the extreme tip of all pages, bump to lower spine affecting the inner guttar of pages (not affecting any omages and barely noticeable unless pages are opened fully), a bit of staining to very margin of last 3 pages, shadow from a previous bookseller sticker (from Berlin) to the half title, and a charming full-page, stream-of--consciousness poetic gift inscription from Anne Clark, American friend, companion and poetic inspiration to Middleton between 1966 to 1984: "...in 1966 [write's Middleton]...I met my fate in the person of Anne Clark of South Dakota. To her I owe not only many poems and stories, but also the pleasure of travel and sojourn in Mexico, France, Berlin, Prague, Budapest, Italy...We parted company in 1984" (Christopher Middleton, A Retrospective Sketch [Chicago Review, Vol. 51, No. 1/2, Christopher Middleton: Portraits (SPRING 2005), pp. 11-16]. Anne Clarke's gift poem to Middleton (fully in keeping with the book's own theme) fills the inside front cover and is dated Berlin, June 26, 1975 (most likely given as a gift during one of their many travels). Overall a solid, clean copy. SIGNED by Frank with a nice association gift inscription between Clark and Middleton.
