Item Details
Description
American, b. 1952
On This Wild Plain, 1986
Signed, titled and dated on the reverse; there's a type-written note by the artist on a label affixed to the stretcher which reads: On This Wild Plain/ Lear and soldiers of French army (sent by Cordelia to rescue Lear from Regan and Gonerill./ This scene takes place after the tempest. Lear is completely mad at this point. He is convinced that these soldiers were sent by Cordelia to kill him - when they are actually benevolent./ I painted the figures of the soldiers in a slightly menacing way to underscore Lear's own emotional state and fear of them.
