Description
This historic chromolithograph is from J. W. Powell's Annual Report of the Bureau of Ethnology to the Secretary of the Smithsonian Institution. The work was published in Washington in 1892 by the Government Printing Office.
John Wesley Powell (1834-1902) was an American geologist, U.S. Army soldier, explorer of the American West, and a professor at Illinois Wesleyan University. He was appointed as the second Director of the U.S. Geological Survey from 1881 to 1894 by Presiden James Garfield.
