96x53cm,Color paper vertical axis,Qi Baishi became an apprentice as a carpenter in 1877, and the following year he changed to carving carpentry; in 1888, he abandoned chisel to learn painting, and successively studied from Xiao Qianqi, Wen Shaoke, Hu Qinyuan, Tan Pu, etc.; in 1889, he studied poetry from the poet and painter Chen Shaofeng; in 1894, he served as the president of Longshan Poetry Society. In 1899, he studied poetry from Wang Kaiyun, a classicist and writer; in 1902, he travelled to Shaanxi, Beijing, Jiangxi, Guangdong and Guangxi; in 1919, he settled in Beijing and began to change the law from Chen Shi's advice; in 1926, he taught at the National Beijing Art School; in 1946, he went to Nanjing and Shanghai. He held a solo exhibition and served as an honorary professor of Beiping Art College. In 1949, he was elected as a member of the China Federation of Literary and Art Circles and a member of the All-China Artists Association. In 1952, he was appointed as an honorary professor of the Central Academy of Fine Arts, a researcher of the Central Museum of Literature and History, the chairman of the Beijing Chinese Painting Research Association, and the honorary member of the Beijing Chinese Academy of Painting.
