Item Details
Description
A rather heavy 9.5 in. x 10.5 in. section of armored windshield from a German Stuka dive bomber, the Junkers JU87B. Presented on a 11 in. long wooden stand bearing a plate that reads: ‘Junkers Ju87 B-1 5518. Armoured Windshield from plane shot down 18th August 1940, at Fishbourne Creek, England by Sgt. J. Hallows, 43 Squadron RAF’. Accompanied by a sheet with details on this specific attack, reading in part: ‘...This aircraft was attacked and shot down by Sgt. H Hallowes of No. 43 Squadron...aircraft broke up in mid-air and crashed into Fishbourne Creek...Both crew members [Oberlt. J. Wilhelm and Uffz. A. Worner] took to their parachutes and were captured. This aircraft was one of 18 lost by StG 77. on a day that became known as the ‘massacre of the Stukas’ and led directly to the Germans withdrawing their Ju87 units from the Battle of Britain.’. A fine, one of a kind relic directly attributed to a specific plane and specific crew, and their exact crash site. Recovered from the crash site by our consignor in the 1970's. Be aware, this is a very heavy item therefore a higher than normal shipping charge is to be expected.
