Description
Scarce photographic book ‘Schonheit Im Olympischen Kampf’ (‘Beauty in Olympic Battle’) by filmmaker and photographer Leni Riefenstahl, (Berlin: Deutscher Verlag, 1937), 286pp. folio bound in orange linen with gilt and gravure plates. Text in German, French, English, Italian and Spanish. Riefenstahl's magnificent photographic chronicle of the 1936 Olympics in Berlin, including photographs of the running of the torch, opening ceremonies, German ‘ideal’ nudes, Hitler, Jessie Owens taking off for his world-record jump, as well as other athletes, closing ceremonies, and a section on the photographer and her team at work. A superb work, issued in conjunction with her film, ‘Olympia’. Spine is detached, covers a bit soiled, as is the spine, which also bears a tear at the bottom, else interior pages are quite good.
