Description
A German World War II clasp, 1.25 x 2 in., nickel construction with four horizontal prongs on the reverse, being a second class ‘spange’ to the Iron Cross, featuring an eagle with a swastika atop a trapezoid with the date ‘1939’. As it was possible for the holder of a 1914 Iron Cross to be awarded a second or higher grade of the 1939 Iron Cross for gallantry in action, this special clasp was designed to be attached to the 1914 Iron Cross medal ribbon beneath a tunic button. Very good to fine condition, with frosting nearly complete.
