A scarce anti-Semitic cartoon from the Russian Imperial period which originated from the collection of Russian scholar and journalist Alexey Semenovich Shmakov (1852-1916). Shmakov sought to describe the subversive activities of Zionism in Russian and around the world through his writings. The cartoon is 8 x 10.25 in. b/w, titled ‘News From Japan’, and depicts two caricatured Jews in discussion over a long sheet. Archival tape reinforcement to central fold on the verso, light soiling otherwise very good.
