Description
An original photograph 5.25 x 4.25 b/w, showing a young Douglas MacArthur (1880-1964) in civilian garb with a second U.S. Army officer. An inscription on verso indicates that this photo was taken by photographer S. A. Wheeler at Fort MacArthur, named for Douglas’ father Arthur, with date ‘1931’. A duplicate print is also present, as well as a rejection letter to publish the photograph from LIFE magazine to photographer Wheeler, July 28, 1950. WITH: 26 additional photographs ca. 1935 in the same format and presumably by Wheeler, showing American and foreign military officers at various events in the Long Beach-San Pedro area, most identified in pencil on verso, along with a number of original negatives. Overall very good condition.
