Description
A rare combination of items, to include an award of the Spanish Cross, given to the deceased recipient's family, along with the accompanying custom-made leather presentation folder, possibly unique. The award document is 1p. 8.25 x 11.75 in., issued in Berlin on May 14, 1940 to the 'relative of the German fighter in Spain...Major Joseph Schraubel 22.5.98 - 44.11.37'. The document bears Hitler's blue lithographed signature at bottom. It is loosely contained within a custom-made blue leather folder, the cover bearing gilt-embossed oak leaves and the title: 'Honor Cross for Survivors of German Fighters in Spain'. A two-cord tassel is attached, and within the artist is credited at bottom: 'EMMA GERHARDT - JENA'. A repair with blue tape has been made to the spine, probably due to weakness thereat, and some rubbing to front cover and corners, else very good. Possibly unique.
