(1882 - 1959) American admiral who led the task force attack on the Marshall and Gilbert islands and became commander of Allied naval forces in South Pacific commanding at the Solomon Islands and Leyte Gulf. His memoir: 'Admiral Halsey's Story' (New York: McGraw-Hill Book Co.), 1947. 310pp. 8vo. in blue cloth with gilt title and trim, dust jacket torn and worn in places. Halsey's memoir of his brilliant military career, signed on the half-title page. Ownership signature at top of same page, and on a front flyleaf, else very good.
