Description
ADOLF HITLER (1889 - 1945) Fuhrer of Germany and Nazi Party leader, Hitler's bloody rise to power, his military seizure of most of Europe and North Africa and his genocidal racial policies culminated in suicide in his Berlin bunker as Russian troops approached. An exceptional grouping of original photographs, one signed, showing Hitler, Eva Braun, Wilhelm Bruckner, and other close friends during Hitler's visit to Landsberg Prison where he had been imprisoned for 264 days in 1924 after being convicted of treason following the Beer Hall Putsch. One photo, 3.25 x 5 in., shows a defiant Hitler in hat and trench coat and is boldly signed and dated at bottom (in German): '16/April 1936' There are five additional photographs, slightly smaller, four of which picture Hitler, including one showing him entering the prison, others showing him the same day, and one showing him at a picnic in a forest. One other image shows Eva Braun, Wilhelm Bruckner, Braun's close friend Marianne Schonmann (from whom these photos originate) and Schonmann's mother, apparently at the same woodlands picnic. Interestingly, the photos are all annotated 'April 1936', but the only known return of Hitler to Landsberg is reputedly some time in 1934. It is doubtful that the photos are dated incorrectly, but printed accounts place the visit in 1934. Certainly worthy of study. All images are in fine condition, and the signed image is especially good - and unique!
