Item Details
Description
A large, Art Deco VERLYS crystal vase in the Thistle pattern, French, circa 1930's. This beautiful, footed vase features a design consisting of six arched, clear "windows" seperated by raised, satin glass "thistle stems" which coalesce upwards into large blooms forming the upper part of the vase, size: 9 1/2 in. height x 6 1/4 in. diameter mouth, polished rim and foot, engraved signature "Verlys" in script on base. The Verlys Glass Company was established in the 1920's as a subsidiary of a US company that was located in Rouen, France. Their designs were made to resemble the famous French glass makers (i.e., LaLique, Sabino) of the Art Deco era. In 1935 they moved back to the United States and were re-established as "VERLYS of America".
Condition
Presents well. Vase itself in very good vintage condition, polished foot shows light wear commensurate with its age and use, the inner base of the foot has a chip that has been later repaired with clear resin. The chip is containted on the bottom inner edge of the foot and so technically doesn't show, but none-the-less is present.
