Elgin National Watch Co., Elgin, Illinois, a gold cased pocket watch, 16 size, 17 jewels, stem wind and set, damascened nickel plate movement with lever escapement, cut bimetallic balance and Moseley micrometric regulator in a 14 karat, yellow gold, engine turned and engraved hunting case, arabic numeral, outer red 5-minute markers, single sunk white enamel dial marked "Government Special", with gold spade and whip hands, 12908456, 84.6g TW
Condition
CASE: Case has housed another movement; Band with a few dents; Covers with tiny dents; Back with shallow dent; Very fine scratches on outer surface of case; Fine scratches on cuvette; Engine turning with moderate wear; Front cover hinge sticky; Significant pressure required to release front cover catch; Bow with pin pricks; Crown shell worn through; Precious metal content marked. DIAL: Faint hairlines. HANDS: Minor oxide, minute. MOVEMENT PLATES: Fine scratches and pin pricks on plate; Gouge at one barrel bridge screw; Ratchet wheel, regulator, click, and one bridge screw abraded; Regulator with specks of oxide; Train bridge with spot of corrosion; Some screw heads with marring and specks of oxide. MOVEMENT FUNCTION: Running order (winds, sets and ticks), circa 1905
