Paris, Galerie Heim. N.B. The Château de Coucy was built in the 1220s by Eguerrand III, Lord of Coucy, during the rule of King Philip II of France. During WWI, the castle served as a German military outpost, and upon the retreat of German troops in 1917, the castle was destroyed on the orders of German General Erich Ludendorff. The only remaining feature of the castle is its keep, which upon construction was the largest in Europe.
