Watercolor and Silk-Embroidered Picture of a Shepherdess, Folwell School, Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, c. 1810. Plain-woven silk ground with drawn outlines defining the head and arms of a central figure, painted fields defining the sky and lake in background, and otherwise worked in silk threads to depict trees, wildflowers, and a fenced cottage, rendered predominantly in satin and chain stitches, contrasting with the sheep's piled fleece of French knots, mounted under later eglomise mat in period gold-leaf frame, (sight) 10 1/8 x 8 1/8 in., (frame) 15 x 13 in.
