A SEVRES PORCELAIN 'BLEU NOUVEAU' RETICULATED TRAY (PLATEAU CARRE A JOUR, 3EME GRANDEUR) AND TWO ICE-CUPS (TASSES A GLACE)
THE TRAY CIRCA 1763-1765, THE PAINTING LIKELY BY A.-V. VIEILLARD; THE ICE-CUPS CIRCA 1789, BLUE INTERLACED L'S MARKS, DATE LETTERS MM AND PAINTER'S MARK FOR MME MAQUERET
Details
The tray finely painted with a woman seated in a landscape, gathering grapes in her lap; the ice-cups with fuchsia flowers hanging from a vine between cornflower blue bands with gilt vine
4 1/4 in. (10.8 cm.) square, the tray
Provenance
The Evill/Frost Collection, Part III, Sotheby's, London, 16 June 2011, lot 268 (the tray).
Lot Essay
The tasses à glace are painted in the same pattern as a service purchased by the comte de Montmorin de Saint' Hérem, Minister of Foreign Affairs, on 24 May 1787, described in the sales records as zone bleu et fleurs Chines. The pattern was produced throughout the late 18th century and over time has become associated with the count's name; however, it was evidently a stock pattern available to other clients.
Madame Rachel Maqueret (née Bouillat) is recorded as a painter of flowers at the manufactory from 1783-92, 1796-98 and 1816-20.
André-Vincent Viellard père is recorded as a painter of figures, landscapes, trophies, patterns and flowers at the manufactory from 1752-90.
