Lot Essay

The tasses à glace are painted in the same pattern as a service purchased by the comte de Montmorin de Saint' Hérem, Minister of Foreign Affairs, on 24 May 1787, described in the sales records as zone bleu et fleurs Chines. The pattern was produced throughout the late 18th century and over time has become associated with the count's name; however, it was evidently a stock pattern available to other clients.
Madame Rachel Maqueret (née Bouillat) is recorded as a painter of flowers at the manufactory from 1783-92, 1796-98 and 1816-20.
André-Vincent Viellard père is recorded as a painter of figures, landscapes, trophies, patterns and flowers at the manufactory from 1752-90.
