Lee Ufan (born 1936) is a South Korean artist and philosopher known for his minimalist and conceptual artwork, as well as his contributions to the Mono-ha movement in Japan during the late 1960s and early 1970s. Born in Korea during the Japanese occupation, Lee moved to Japan in 1956 to study philosophy at Nihon University in Tokyo.Lee Ufan's artistic practice is deeply rooted in Eastern philosophy, particularly the concept of "emptiness" (mu in Japanese, or wu in Chinese), which emphasizes the interconnectedness of all things and the importance of the void or space in art and life.
