Charles Lapicque (1898 - 1988) "Mill by the sea" lithograph, 20th century French painting. Beautiful original lithograph of a seascape by Charles Lapicque. The artist produced some of his first landscape paintings in 1920, while continuing to work as an engineer in a laboratory where he also researched colour perception. He used fragmented pictorial space, patches of colour and fleeting outlines. In 1943, he finally gave up his assistant post at the Faculte des Sciences to devote himself entirely to his career as an artist.
